Jibia has been in the news for the past six weeks due to bandit attacks on communities along the Jibia-Batsari and Jibia-Maradi boundaries.

At least 15 displaced persons have died, and dozens are receiving treatment at Katsina and Jibia General Hospitals from the IDP camp in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, from sustained bandits attack

Around 15,000 people are now taking refuge at Jibia’s IDP camp, where the camp’s chairman, Sada Salisu, has said 15 people have died of trauma-related conditions in the last three months.

He also disclosed that 35 pregnant women had given birth in the camp, which houses IDPs from nine villages that have now been completely abandoned.Salisu mentioned Kwarai, Zango, Farfaru, Shinfida, Tsauni, Gurbin Magarya, Garin Maiwuya, and Tsambe among the villages.

While lamenting the camp’s sanitary conditions and acute water shortage, Salisu commended the state and Jibia Local Governments for providing two meals per day.

“Because there aren’t enough mattresses at the camp, many of us, particularly the men, go to Jibia and Magama towns to find other places to sleep.”

“Our children, approximately 3,000 of them in this camp, are now out of school, while our men have lost their means of subsistence, which is farming.”

“The bandits have stolen our animals, burned our houses and shops, and chased us out of our farms; even if we are resettled in our villages, they will not let us cultivate our farms,” Salisu lamented.
