Alleged Islamist group accomplice – Lance Corporal Abdullahi Jibrin commits Suicide.

 

Lance Corporal Abdullahi Jibrin, attached to the Nigerian Army 159 Battalion in Geidam, under the Nigerian Army 27 Task Force Brigade in Buni Gari, Yobe State, has killed himself while in military transit according to reports.

The soldier who fought alongside Islamist group in last Sunday’s raid of Geidam, a town in Yobe State was subsequently tracked by Military Intelligence hundreds of kilometers from his supposed duty post to Gashua, Yobe state where he was arrested in a commercial bus at a checkpoint on Tuesday morning.

While in transit to custody, he reportedly snatched a gun from a soldier and shot himself dead.
Reports say that Lance Corporal Abdullahi Jibrin served in the Intelligence Corps and was a weapons instructor of the terror group.

The assistant director, army Public relations, Sector 2 Operation Hadin Kai in Damaturu, Lieutenant Anyawu Kennedy, confirmed the incident saying “Lance Corporal Abdullahi Jibrin was allegedly fingered during the last attack in Geidam and was later arrested for absconding from duty. And while in “transit to Geidam, Jibrin employed his skills as a weapon instructor, snatched a gun from one of his escorts, overpowered the other, and blew himself up.

The officer also informed that Jibrin’s interrogation has helped in the “arrest of some other suspects, allegedly among the troops in both Gombe and Geidam battalions.

“A committee has been set up by the army to investigate his death before making it public.”
