Minister of Communications, Ibrahim Isa Pantami has ordered the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to deactivate 2.42 million improperly registered Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards within one week, an ultimatum that ends on September 25th 2019.
“We want to make sure that by 25th of September 2019, we don’t have a single incomplete registration of SIM in Nigeria,” the Minister told the management of the telecom regulator in Abuja on Tuesday during a meeting and ordered the commission (NCC) to ensure that all telecommunication companies involved, implement the directive within one week.
Pantami also praised the commission’s effort for regularising 6.8million SIM cards out of the 9.2 million which was reported when he assumed office, less than a month ago. He reteirated the implication improperly registered sim cards on National security.
