Zamfara governor, Bello Matawalle, has shut Shattima Model Primary School, Gusau, over an alleged desecration of the Holy Qur’an in the school and will remain shut pending investigation by the State Basic Education Commission (BEC) says Idris Yussuph, the governor’s media head in a statement.
Yussuph, who said the closure was necessary over reports of the discovery of some pages of the Qur’an in the school’s sewage, on Friday, also promised that anyone found culpable “will be deal with ruthlessly, however highly placed.”
Security also has been beefed up within Gusau metropolis, particularly at Danturai Primary School, the state library, Farida General Hospital, Government Day Secondary School, Sabon Gari; and Rabi’a Jumaat Mosque, among others, over similar reports of alleged desecration of the Qu’ran.
Yussuph however, advised residents to report strangers, strange gatherings and suspicious movements in those areas to security agencies as soon as possible.
