Abia’s illustrious son and publisher, Prince Emeka Obasi is dead

Prince Emeka Obasi, author, journalist, born February 10, 1964 in Umuahia, Ibeku, Abia state dies on the 15th march 2022 barely a month after his 58th birthday.

Emeka Obasi who was married to Betty Mankini Amune in 2000 had his early edu cation at Community Primary School, Ahiaeke Ibeku, Umuahia, in 1971 until 1976. He attended Ibeku High School, Umuahia, and the University of Calabar, where he studied and graduated with B.A English 1983-87.

His career in journalism started as a reporter in Newswatch. 1987-89; He was the Features Editor, in Classique Magazine, 1989-90.

Emeka Obasi was an indefatigable person brimming with ideas. He was Presi dent, Cameo Adventures Limited, Lagos, 1990-93; and President/Chief Executive Officer, Patrioni Limited, a Public Relations Consultancy firm, since 1993. The company became publishers of Hallmark Newspapers in 1999 and he was the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief.

He was also member, Media Advisory Committee, Imo State, 1998; member, Nigerian Union of Journalist; member,Nigerian Publishers Association; Execu tive Secretary, Public Policy Research and Analysis Centre; Secretary, Mohammed Bello Endowment in Jurisprudence; H was founder, National Arts Foundation, founder/initiator, Awolowo Foundation; founder/initiator, The Yakubu Gowon Centre.

Prince Emeka Obasi has won many awards and recognitions. He was recipient, Certificate of Merit, Editorial, Newswatch magazine, the Role Model Entrepreneurial Award, 1993 and many others too numerous to mention.

As author, he worte many biographies among which are: In the Course of Justice, Honorable Justice Mohammed Bello, Chief Justice of Nigeria; A Pencil in God’s Hand, An authorized Biography of Archbishop Benson Idahosa; The Judiciary And The Challenges ofJustice, by Justice M.M.A. Akanbi, President, Court of Appeal, Nigeria; Yours In Service, An authorized Biog raphy of Chief (Mrs) Ronke Doherty; Law And Statesmanship: The Legacy of Sir Udoma; In The Service of My Country, A Biography of Alhaji Abdulrahman Okene.

Prince Emeka Obasi was a lover of intellectual discourse, poetry, music, literature and a huge devourer of the written words.

The world has lost a gem.
