In order to curtail street begging in Kano State, the Hisbah Board has apprehended 931 street beggars with a large number of pregnant underaged girls and an old woman found with a large sum of money. they were arrested on major roads, under bridges, markets, railway station and other locations within the metropolitan local government areas. According to Sheikh Ibn Sina, Commander General of the Board, the figures are for the last two weeks.
The arrested beggars comprise 536 females and 279 males, while only 63 of them are yet to be reunited with their families. He assured that the state government is ready to prosecute beggars who reappear on the streets after being evacuated. Some of the underaged children had been engaged in drug trafficking and other societal vices at different recreational centres in the city.
