Hakeem Odumosu, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) and former Lagos State Police Commissioner, has classified as rumour, a report which emerged on Tuesday, that he was appointed as substantive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
He said the “information must have emanated from mischief makers and should be totally disregarded”.
Odumosu is being speculated as replacement for Bawa, former Chairman of the EFCC who was recently suspended for misconduct and who is under interrogation by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Odumosu in a statement on Wednesday, wrote:
”Good Morning, everyone, I have been inundated with so many calls and messages between yesterday and today on a purported “EFCC Appointment”. I just want to use this opportunity to debunk this information and say it’s totally untrue.
Nicknamed “Tango One” for his skill in flushing out criminals, The retired AIG served as first chairperson of Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Taskforce) and also the Commander of the State-funded Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
